Is self sustained heating a good idea?

After we looked into alternative methods of heating, we cam across a new biomass heating system, and thought we’d investigate further.

The idea of a biomass heating system is to enable complete sustainability for the user, and allow them to generate their own heat.  Being self sufficient is something that many people like the idea of, but are not entirely sure what it entails, or how to go about it.

Basically a biomass heating system consists of a 1500L tank which his heated by low carbon wooden pellets, which then heats the water that is transferred to the existing system in a house or commercial building.

The down side to a biomass heating system is the cost, a system like this is quite expensive to install, and the because the parts are custom made for each application and the system has to be purpose built, it could be many years before the user recuperates the cost through future energy savings.
